Salamanders and Hepatica

Spring outdoor adventures started with a trek into the vernal ponds at Hudson Mills Metropark near Dexter Mi. We went after dark hoping to see the salamanders migrate from the woods to the ponds. We saw a small blue spotted when we first started the walk under a log, when we got to the ponds there were quite a few in the water but saw none on land, Pic of the yellow spotted was one taken from the water and put on land. Dont think it was happy about that. Today I went into the woods to the spot where the Hepaticas hang out and they were in full bloom. They are one of my favorite wildflowers. I think because the skunk cabbage and the hepatica signal winter is finally over. l dont have to go far though because at my front door is a patch of mixed spring flower bulbs. I Love Nature!!!

Beautiful shots and love the salamanders! Spring was a long time coming.
We have an eastern yellow spotted salamander just like the one in your picture in a terrarium, we found it in the garden far from anywhere safe and my daughter fell in love with it. They grow very fast! I want to set it free this summer and hope to convince her to let it go :)
