The other side of the river

On sunday we spotted what we thought was dogwood tree growing in the wild which are kinda rare around here but it was on a hill on the other side of the river. Today we went on a mission to check it out. The flowers we found on the way were nice. Big patches of Wild Lupines. We did have to traverse two swamps  with our tennis shoes. It was mucky and we were determined.  we had to walk down the train tracks too. The pics I got don't do justice to the tree. It was beautiful, full bloom in its glory.

This is what we saw from across the river

The Dogwood

Im not much of a mushroom hunter but I think this was a Morel

Nice stand of wild Lupine

Daisy fleabane just starting to open

Glad you got to the dogwood, sure is a pretty tree. I haven't seen lupine blooming on this side of the state yet this year, and Blue-eyed Grass is one of my many favorites!
The tree all by itself (nice tree)is like art.
And Daisy fleabane! Eastern Michigan is definitely farther ahead of the west.
What a fun adventure. Two mucky swamps but determined, sounds like my sister and me.
Thanks for sharing it. :)

Just like a treasure hunt! I use to take my little boys into the woods to show them what it looks like when a deer nibbles on buds or scrapings on the ground. Owl pellets and scoop up pond water and watch it grow on our window sills. Follow little tiny beetle tracks in the sand. Spy for turkeys high in a tree. And Oh the Morels!!! The woods is like heaven! Enjoyed your post!
